Sclcct interior finish materials in buildings to minimize danger from fire.

1. Building codes regulate on the basis of lire safety the finish materials that may be used inside buildings. Several factors are considered: How fast will flame spread across a surface of a given material? How much smoke will the burning material give off? And how much fuel will the material contribute to the blaze? These factors are measured by laboratory tests and are expressed in terms of a Flame Spread Rating, a Smoke-Developed Rating, and a Fuel-Contributed Rating for each material.
