Some types of finish surfaces make things easier for construction workers because they conceal or camouflage small inaccuracies and blemishes.

1. Because of problems associated with working in the tiring, awkward overhead position, gypsum board workers and plasterers find it difficult to make a ceiling surface completely smooth and plane. There are almost always some slight flaws in the joints of gypsum board ceilings and minor blemishes in overhead plaster work. A textured finish on a ceiling can hide these imperfections beyond detection, making the prior operations easier and more economical. A smooth-surfaced ceiling, especially one with a gloss paint on it, accentuates every defect.

2. Avoid lighting a smooth plaster surface with a window or a light fixture
