Casein Binder Made from Powdered Casein

Mix together thoroughly: 11/3 cup of dry casein powder with 1/3 cup dry, screened Borax. Whisk ingredients into half a gallon (1.9 liters) of water (you don't need a blender for this!). Allow 1 to 2 hours for this mix to thicken. That's it!

This half-gallon of casein binder can be used full strength as a base for making milk paint, or diluted further to use as a clear sealer or as a binder for a fine finish plaster over walls or an earthen floor.
