Ceiling joist

In the writer's opinion it is important to maintain the tying effect of the ceiling joist within the hip area and for this reason the ceiling joists should span in the direction indicated in Fig. 3.6. To do this it will be necessary to maintain the support by the binder within the hip area, and whilst the binder can be supported from the cantile-vered purlin, it may be more prudent to have a separate binder beam supported at its ends, on the extreme end of the roof on the wall plate, and on an internal supporting partition wall.
