Case Study 1313 Westminster Station

Architects: Michael Hopkins and Partners

This is situated in the basement of the new parliamentary building with its foundations and services weaving their way through the spaces. It is a fantastic, dramatic space to be compared with the Piranesi drawing that introduced the book in Figure 1.2. Thus we have gone full circle to show that stairs are the design feature of a building that creates the greatest interest. At Westminster the escalators and stairs span vast distances and as one looks down it appears that ants are travelling through space.
